Kingsford Charcoal Grills: Why They're The Best

The man who started Kingsford charcoal, Edward G. Kingsford, worked in real estate and owned a Ford auto dealership. He was married to Minnie Flaherty, a cousin of Henry Ford of the Ford Motor Company.
Ironically Kingsford began his charcoal journey in one of Mr. Ford’s production facilities where the Model T was being produced.  He noticed that the wood used in the auto plant was being discarded in large quantities. He suggested to Mr. Ford that they should re-use the wood or sell it instead of throwing it away.

The two men opened a chemical plant to produce, among other products, charcoal from the discarded wood. Their process produced 600 pounds of charcoal from every 2,000 pounds of wood (30%). They turned the charcoal into small squares called briquettes that were sold as “Ford Charcoal Briquettes” at local Ford car dealerships. Later the company was renamed the Kingsford Charcoal Company and today the top selling brand of charcoal in the USA is Kingsford charcoal. Most of the grills produced by Kingsford are Kingsford CHARCOAL grills.

Kingsford Charcoal Grills – Choosing The One That’s Best For You

We recommend you look at the three “C’s” when deciding which Kingsford charcoal grill to go with. The first “C” is construction. Is the unit’s construction durable? What metal is used and how thick is it? Will the grill rust? Is it sturdy? Kingsford charcoal grills are heavy duty and built to last. The second “C” is capacity. The rule of thumb is to buy the biggest grill you can afford unless you’re looking for a portable grill. Large Kingsford charcoal grills do as well with small amounts of food as they do larger ones. The third “C” is clean up. Is the grill you are considering difficult to clean? Does it have several small parts or nooks and crannies that must be scrubbed? Kingsford charcoal grills are very easy to clean, both the surfaces you grill on as well as the charcoal pit. That’s another reason they are preferred by people that love to grill.
